Waikiki Beach Walk, Honolulu, Hawaii

The rich historic legacy and diverse cultural influences of Hawaii were an important part of this urban redevelopment project located in the heart of popular Waikiki Beach. The City of Honolulu was passionate about integrating historical markers into the area, and using them along with the directional signage elements to guide visitors through this part of town and creating an educational experience. Working with local cultural and historical organizations, RSM researched, wrote, and designed "vignettes" of Hawaiian culture and used local materials and craftsman to assist in the implementation of these installations on parking garages, a pop jet fountain, and the wayfinding program.
