College of the Desert, Coachella Valley, California

College of the Desert located next to the famous resort town of Palm Springs was in need of an updated master sign program that is analogous within Palm Desert. Working with the City of Palm Desert and the college campus team, RSM designed the master campus wide signage guidelines to include both vehicular and pedestrian wayfinding and building identities. The campus is used all year round by students attending both day and night classes, as well as, the numerous amount of highly attended street fairs that the campus hosts every year. The signage had to respond to the multitude of uses and lighting conditions of the site. Another requirement taken into consideration was the harsh climate, intense sun, and strong winds. RSM designed the signs with automotive points and high coat solar finish to withstand fading. The designs of the signage were inspired by the desert's color palette where the desert flower is the bright contrast to the neutral tones of the desert.
