Fireworks, bands, and local wineries were part of the gala event and festivities at the grand re-opening of the Promenade Temecula renovation and expansion project. Forest City Enterprises, the RSM Design team, and numerous other consultants and local officials joined in the celebration. The studio at RSM Design was proud to see the new branding and logo design, interior way finding signage, exterior monumentation and specialty original hand painted murals implemented throughout the project. Congratulations to Forest City on another successful community retail center!

Having too much fun!
The RSM Design team sent off two of our principals, Martin Schwartz and Harry Mark, to Abu Dhabi a couple of weeks ago to visit the site of our new project, the Ferrari World theme park and race day signage for the Middle East’s first Formula One race. The whole team rallied together to design the concept package for the identity and way finding. Martin and Harry extended their trip to market potential clients in Dubai and Cairo… Check back for more photos and stories of their camel ride and trip to the world’s largest mall!

Sweet, spicy, sexy (well, not exactly), and above all else, delicious!
Members of the RSM team brought in their own chili concoctions to challenge each other in the second annual Chili Cook Off. For the first half of the day the slow cookers heated up their culinary masterpieces. The rich aroma of chili wafted through the air and stomachs churned and growled while awaiting tasting time.
Are you getting hungry yet?
Finally at noon the cornbread arrived (Thanks Valerie & Kathy!) and the tasting battle began. Each of the 4 chilis was incredibly tasty with unique flavors and ingredients that set it apart from the others. Ashley’s secret weapon of choice was chocolate, mmmm chocolate, making her chili delectable. DJ made a white chili, fragrant with herbs and spices that set it apart not only visually but was scrumptious as well. Kelly created a hot and fiery Creole chili, complete with andouille sausage, brown ale and 13 blazing spices that gave it quite a kick. Kyle (also known as “Chili Cook-Off Champ ‘08) cooked up a hearty All-American style chili which brought out the best of a sausage and ground sirloin combo that would make any cowboy’s mouth water.
It was the toughest decision in years (all 2 of them) with each chili being so different yet so darn yummy. After seconds and thirds were taken, the votes were cast and tallied and Kelly’s spicy Creole chili was named the 2009 winner. Now that’s HOT!

RSM Design was just awarded identity sign designs for the first Formula One “Race Day” at Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Included in the scope of the project that RSM will be designing is the wayfinding and graphics that will lead visitors to the Ferrari World Amusement Park. A few of the team members in the office took a field trip to the Newport Beach Ferrari Dealership to research the history, design, and make of these extraordinary racing machines. The guys in the office spent the afternoon admiring and drooling over the abilities, speed, and beauty of the cars.

Avenida 8, a shopping and leisure center, in Sao Joao, Portugal was named a 2009 finalist for the ICSC European Shopping Center Award in the New Developments: Medium category. The European Shopping Center Award is the supreme award in European retail property, granted for both new and refurbished or extended projects. Redmond Schwartz Mark Design worked with developer Sonae Sierra and Laguarda.Low Architects to develop the branding and comprehensive wayfinding program through out this exciting retail center. Winners will be announced in April 2009.

The graphics program at Otay Ranch, in Chula Vista, California, was awarded 2nd Place in Sign Web’s 2008 International Sign Contest. RSM, together with General Growth Properties, Field Paoli Architects, and Creo implemented a comprehensive branding and graphics package for this Spanish-styled outdoor retail resort.
When General Growth Properties approached RSM Design, they wanted one thing for Otay Ranch – a strong iconic brand. Taking inspiration from the geographic location and the ranch theme, the team developed iron-branded signage, specialty graphics, and tapestries, transforming this new mixed-use development into a laidback modern-day hacienda.

Waikiki Beach Walk in Honolulu, Hawaii, won the coveted International Design and Development Award in 2008 from ICSC (International Council of Shopping Centers). It was awarded top honors in the category of new project and renovation under 150,00 square feet. Waikiki Beach Walk is both a vibrant and stylish entertainment, dining, and retail center that also celebrates the beauty and culture of Hawaii. RSM Design wants to congratulate Altoon + Porter Architects along with the client team and thank them for asking RSM Design to be part of this exciting project.

Redmond Schwartz Mark Design, along with the UC Riverside Development Team and students at UC Riverside are working together to design the environmental graphics for the student commons that will create a space where the students can hang out and productively use all the resources that are available to them on campus. Wayfinding, environmental graphics, and branding are all elements that the team are designing in order to create an innovative and exciting atmosphere for the UC Riverside students, faculty, and staff.

Redmond Schwartz Mark Design has been working with the County of Los Angeles Libraries to design and establish a new master sign program for all of the libraries within the Los Angeles County. Many of the team members at the studio, headed up by principal, Martin Schwartz, were involved in the research, design, and creation of the sign program which will be implemented into the current library system.

Victoria Gardens, located in Rancho Cucamonga, California has won numerous awards in the past few years since its opening in 2004. ICSC (International Council of Shopping Centers) awarded the open air ‘downtown’ retail and lifestyle center the Design Award for Innovation Design and Development of a New Project, which include projects 150,001 to 500,000 square feet. It was also a ULI (Urban Land Institute) Award Winner in 2008. RSM Design worked alongside owners Forest City Development, Lewis Retail Centers and numerous architects and consultants to develop and design a town square, which includes, retail, office, and civic uses. “Environmental graphics are an additional anchor, everyone loves them,” Brian Jones, Forest City Development.
Rancho Cucamonga was one of those developing communities with an intriguing name that not many people knew about. The unique history of the area is what RSM Design focused on when designing the environmental graphics program for Victoria Gardens and the town’s Cultural Center. Integrating a comprehensive graphics approach, RSM was able to show the historical roots of the city through a Main Street designed to appear as if it were built over time.
