Third Annual Chili Cook-Off

Some members of the RSM team brought in their own chili concoctions to challenge each other in our Third Annual Chili Cook-Off.

Ashley’s secret weapon of choice was liquid smoke and tequila, which created a tantalizing smoky taste to her chili. DJ made a shredded chicken chili, fragrant with herbs and spices that set it apart from the rest. Kelly created a hot and fiery chili, complete with sausage, brown ale and lots of roasted garlic that gave it quite a kick. Kyle cooked up a hearty All-American style chili which brought out the best of sausage and sirloin by adding brown sugar. Suzanne, Martin and Harry’s chili was a “whatever you can find in the cabinet” chili but came together quite nicely with lots of spices and ground turkey.

After all the chili’s were tasted and the tasters were on to dessert, the votes were cast and tallied and Ashley’s smokey Texas style chili was named the “Third Annual Chili Cook-Off Winner.”

Vans “Off the Wall” Winners

The Vans “Off the Wall” winners have been announced! The Vans judging panel selected the winners for the following four categories including Marketability, Creativity, Originality, and “Off the Wall” Attitude. Each winner received a chance to design their own custom Vans.

Creativity Winner: This is It, by Ashley Zwar

Originality Winner: Bobble Heads, by Martin Schwartz

Marketability Winner: Chalk it Up, by Kelly Ehrheart

Congratulations to the Winners! Who knows, maybe we’ll see these on the shelves at Vans sometime soon!

RSM Off the Wall!

RSM teams up with Vans marketing for a competition in shoe design. Each designer was given one pair of white canvas shoes and a set of design parameters, including marketability, creativity, originality, and “off the wall” attitude. However, the only real parameter was that the designer had fun. And with all the different solutions, it’s pretty clear that everyone did. The winner will be announced after Vans sorts through all of our submissions. You never know, you might see a pair on the shelf at a Vans store soon!!! Check back after the holidays to find out the winners!

Can Airstreams Be LEED Certified?

We were wondering about the whole LEED certification process as it relates to Airstreams…we didn’t quite find that chapter as we were studying for the test. Well, Harry just completed his eco-friendly restoration and conversion of his 1966 Airstream Globetrotter….finally! The RSM studio gathered for afternoon munchies (thanks, DJ, for the awesome homemade ceviche) to check out their reflections in the polished aluminum skin and hang out in the Eames inspired interior. Rather then expanding the footprint of his “Red Barn” house, Harry took the more retro approach for his new Silver Bullet library nestled in the backyard.

Promenade Temecula Expansion Opens With a BANG!

Fireworks, bands, and local wineries were part of the gala event and festivities at the grand re-opening of the Promenade Temecula renovation and expansion project. Forest City Enterprises, the RSM Design team, and numerous other consultants and local officials joined in the celebration. The studio at RSM Design was proud to see the new branding and logo design, interior way finding signage, exterior monumentation and specialty original hand painted murals implemented throughout the project. Congratulations to Forest City on another successful community retail center!

HOT HOT HOT! 2nd Annual Chili Cook Off

Sweet, spicy, sexy (well, not exactly), and above all else, delicious!

Members of the RSM team brought in their own chili concoctions to challenge each other in the second annual Chili Cook Off. For the first half of the day the slow cookers heated up their culinary masterpieces. The rich aroma of chili wafted through the air and stomachs churned and growled while awaiting tasting time.

Are you getting hungry yet?

Finally at noon the cornbread arrived (Thanks Valerie & Kathy!) and the tasting battle began. Each of the 4 chilis was incredibly tasty with unique flavors and ingredients that set it apart from the others. Ashley’s secret weapon of choice was chocolate, mmmm chocolate, making her chili delectable. DJ made a white chili, fragrant with herbs and spices that set it apart not only visually but was scrumptious as well. Kelly created a hot and fiery Creole chili, complete with andouille sausage, brown ale and 13 blazing spices that gave it quite a kick. Kyle (also known as “Chili Cook-Off Champ ‘08) cooked up a hearty All-American style chili which brought out the best of a sausage and ground sirloin combo that would make any cowboy’s mouth water.

It was the toughest decision in years (all 2 of them) with each chili being so different yet so darn yummy. After seconds and thirds were taken, the votes were cast and tallied and Kelly’s spicy Creole chili was named the 2009 winner. Now that’s HOT!
